NOT FORKCHOPS, JANUARY 23 - 27, 2013
Opening: Friday January 25, 2013 5-9
Date and time media/press preview: Wednesday January 23, 2013 4-8
imm Living is hosting Not Forkchops at Loop Galley, from January 23-27. Unlike other shows, the attendees hold the fate of the designers in their hands. Stop by, place your vote and be part of history.
With a successful debut show during the 2012 Design Week, imm Living’s Not Forkchops is back! Not Forkchopsencompasses the idea that we live in a country where worlds have collided, cultures of all kinds (not just ethnic based cultures) have merged, borrowing ideas from one, and adapting from another. Not Forkchops will give Canadian artists and designers the opportunity to showcase how the idea of cultural adaptation and adoption has influenced the work they produce, in a way that is elegant, contemporary and unique.
Unlike many other shows, where the attendees are simply there to observe, Not Forkchops will require the active participation of the individuals in attendance. They hold the fate of the designers in their hands. Each designer will be appointed a specific colour sticky note. Voters will get to place their favourite designer's coloured sticky note on a blank wall, creating a dynamic, ever changing piece within the space. The designer with the most votes will have the opportunity to collaborate with imm Living and work on a project that may see their product(s) sold on a global scale. NotForkchops will run from January 23, 2013 - January 27, 2013 at Loop Galley. Stop in and place your vote!
Designers: Rob Southcott, Maiwenn Costallan, Alexx Boisjoli, Zoe Mowat, Kristen Lim Tung, Jessica Nakanishi, Connie Tong, Lana FiliponneSunday, January 20, 2013
OPENING SATURDAY FEBRUARY 2, 2013 2 to 5 p.m.
Elizabeth D’Agostino Nature Collapse
Working with the notion of longing and belonging, Nature Collapse examines relationships within the natural world inspired by botanical and entomological research. D’Agostino draws from observational notes and re-counts specific sites to create new roles within a fabricated landscape. By assembling hybridized forms, objects of curiosity and deliberate combinations of biological imagery, Nature Collapse reflects the integration between form and function within the natural world.
D’Agostino is an artist and educator living and working in Toronto. She received her BFA from the University of Windsor and her MFA from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, IL. She has exhibited in Canada and internationally. Recent exhibitions of her work include: Harbourfront Gallery, Toronto, Ontario (2012); Art Gallery of Algoma, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario (2012), Okanagan Print Triennial, Kelowna Art Gallery, British Columbia (2012). Her work can also be found in many private and public collections including the University of Changchun Jilin, China; Frans Masareel Centrum, Belgium; and Ernst and Young, Canada.

Mark Adair The Hungry Throat of the Sea
The Hungry Throat of the Sea is the final installment of Death Dreams a Martini, Adair's decade long project employing miniature charcoal drawings. The new works reveal the fate of Death's Children as they are first taken, then separated, then re-united. Adair has added nearly thirty new drawings to the sixty or so completed between 2004 and 2011. Inspired by the art history of the fourteenth century in western Europe (think plague, war and starvation).
Adair created this long narrative series about Death and his adventures in a world increasingly threatened by our collective behaviour. The Hungry Throat of The Sea will also include two new large drawings that will be added to the three previously exhibited at loop in 2011.
Adair is a graduate of York University (BFA 1979) and the University of Victoria (MFA 1982). He was active with the Torontoniensis Collective before joining loop in 2004.
